Christmas is the season of giving. The things that we give to our friends and family during the holiday season are typically bought in a store and manufactured in a distant land. 3D Printing disrupts this pattern by empowering individuals to make (rather than buy) gifts. There is no need to go to a store since the manufacturing can now be done on your desktop! photo-74

As an example of this self-manufactured gifts, one of our Makers printed this giant Lego figurine for his son. This figurine is composed of seven different parts, which are printed in blue, red and yellow. Just like a real Lego, the head, hands, and legs have full range of motion and can be disassembled. The finished product is shown inside one of the MakerLab's Replicator 2 printers to add a dramatic background!

Although the MakerLab resides in the College of Business, we are proud to serve our entire campus. Our Lab provides a unique space for majors from across campus to come Learn, Make, and Share. attachment Halloween is just around the corner. If you are like us, you are still trying to decide what costume you will wear this year. Store bought costumes are cliche, expensive, and often fit poorly. Fortunately, our Lab can fix this! Using the power of 3D printing, you can create your a customize and unique costume for a fraction of the price that you would pay for a store-bought one. If you already have a costume, our Lab can help you accessorize your Halloween activities by printing pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and other Halloween-related objects. Your only limits are your imagination!

The MakerLab is a sponsor for the weekend startup event 54.io organized by students for students, at the University of Illinois. Teams of students working on physical products for their startups will have free access to the MakerLab during special weekend hours this weekend.
