About This Camp

Join us for this innovative camp on design modeling and 3D printing! Informed by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), this camp promotes computer-assisted drawing (CAD) literacy among youth.

The primary goal is to teach the main principles of engineering drawings and digital modeling skills. The ability to understand and practice effective design procedures will help develop spatial comprehension, creative thinking, and critical thinking.

What You'll Learn

  • Demonstrate basic sketching skills
  • Understand and generate basic technical drawings
  • Demonstrate 3D modeling skills using Fusion 360
  • Understand and demonstrate effective design process
  • Understand working principles and operation of 3D printers
  • Solve design problems using design thinking principles

Camp Structure

In the first half of the camp, participants will be introduced to and gain competence in the basics of 2D and 3D design and design thinking, as well as operations of 3D scanning and desktop 3D printing.

Campers will be assigned a design challenge, working in teams of two to three members to creatively solve a design problem using concepts taught in the camp. The purpose of the design challenge is to engage students in hands-on, iterative 3D printing activity to solidify the knowledge and design skills covered in the class.

The last session will be devoted to a student presentation where teams will show their design solutions to the class.

Requirements

  • Windows or Mac computer (no Chromebooks)
