Description: Throughout this course participants will gain valuable experience about how 3D printers work, what people can make and explore the 3D printing ecosystem. This course will dive into the future of 3D printing and how this technology has already shaped our world. Participants will learn the how 3D printing is being applied across numerous domains, including design, manufacturing, and retailing. It will also demonstrate the special capabilities of 3D printing such as customization, self-assembly, and the ability to print complex objects. Participants who complete this course will obtain a rich understanding of the capabilities of 3D printing and how to think about designing objects for this new technology.
Format: This course will begin at the beginning of each month (February, March, April). Participants will complete over 7 hours of online material consisting of videos followed by quizzes and assessments. After completion of the online material, participants will attend all 4 of our Thursday workshops (Basic 3D Printing, 3D Design with Tinkercad, 3D Design with Fusion 360 and 3D scanning) to apply their newfound knowledge in an hands on setting. We offer all four workshops each month, so you can schedule at your convenience on Thursday evenings. If Thursday's don't work, we will organize special sessions exclusively for our combo offer learners.

This course will be online content only. Over 7 hours of video lectures participants will learn a variety of 3D printing . This course will be separated into two mini-courses:
~Mini-Course 1 will demonstrate how 3D printers work, show what people make with them, and examine the 3D printing ecosystem. It will also explore the future of 3D printing and discuss how this technology will revolutionize our world.
~Mini-Course 2 will help you understand how 3D printing is being applied across a number of domains, including design, manufacturing, and retailing and discuss people are using this technology to solve problems. This workshop is designed for ages 10-18. If your kid loves Minecraft, this 3D printing workshop is for them. We will introduce your kids to modelling and 3D printing through building objects in Minecraft. Your kids will gain an understanding of 3D printing technology and take home their very own 3Dprinted creation after the completion of the workshop. We will cover the necessary tools to export portions of a minecraft world and how to get that file into a software (Cura) for slicing and 3d printing. Attend all 4 of our workshops to complete our Digital Maker Certificate! The Digital Maker Certificate is a visible symbol that you possess the knowledge and skills to design, scan, and print 3D objects. In addition, it certifies to others that you are well versed with cutting-edge 3D tools such as 3d printers/scanners, platforms such as Thingiverse.com , and software such as Tinkercad, and Autodesk Fusion 360. This workshop is an introduction into the world of 3D printing. In this workshop our Gurus will provide a brief overview of the MakerLab and 3D printing. Different printing methodologies, as well as their benefits and limitations will also be covered during this session. This session will demonstrate how to operate a 3D printer and how to download, prepare, and print digital files from a digital library (Thingiverse).

Come learn the basics of 3D Printing and walk out with a 3d printed custom fidget spinner. We supply one bearing, and you supply the pennies to use as weights. This workshop can be used in lieu of the basic 3d printing workshop, to count towards our maker certificate. Take all four courses to get the certificate.
If you want to use bearings for the three corners of the spinner, each bearing is $1 extra( can be paid in the lab).

This workshop will demonstrate how to operate a basic 3D Design Software package (TinkerCad). Participants in this workshop will use this software to design a customized keychain that can be printed in our lab. The skills learned this workshop can be easily applied to create a wide variety of fun and useful 3D printable objects.

The 3D scanning workshop will provide an overview of how 3D scanning works, the different scanners available in the lab and on campus and a demonstration of how to scan both people and objects. After completing this workshop, participants will be able to create their own 3D photocopies! Each participant gets their free head scan and print(a $15 value) as part of this final workshop and then a certificate.

This workshop will teach you the basics of a more advanced 3D software package (Autodesk Fusion 360). This workshop will teach participants two important modeling skills (free-form modeling and parametric modeling). The skills learned this workshop can be easily applied to create advanced 3D printable objects, such as objects with unique shapes and movable parts.
