MakerLab Featured in Smile Politely

The MakerLab is in the news again.  Hannah Pitstick recently published a wonderful account of our recent grand opening in Smile Politely, Champaign-Urbana's Online Magazine. Hannah did a great job of capturing the magic of 3D printing and how our efforts to bring this magic to the Champaign-Urbana community. Although our lab is housed at the Business Instructional Facility on the U of I campus, our services are available to anyone. Thus, you don't need to be an Illinois student or a faculty to experience the wonders of 3D printing. So, if you would like to give 3D printing a try, just stop on by!

MakerLab Featured in German Business Magazine

The MakerLab is once again in the news. This time in Germany! The leading German Marketing Magazine, absatzwirtschaft published a recent story on the maker movement and prominently featured our lab. Unfortunately, we forgot most of our high school German, so we are looking for translation help from some German speakers. Danke Schon!

MakerLab Featured in BizEd Magazine

The MakerLab is in the news again. This July/August issue of BizEd Magazine (the official publication of the American Association for Collegiate Schools of Business) published a one page overview of the MakerLab in its "Idea Exchange" section. This section features innovative new initiatives at business schools around the world. According to BizEd, "Submissions are selected based on the uniqueness of the program." We are grateful for the BizEd staff for selecting our Lab as their featured initiative and hope that the MakerLab serves as model for other business schools interested in exploring the emerging Maker Movement and understanding its implications for business thought and practice.

MakerLab meets MakerBot

Director of the Illinois MakerLab, Vishal Sachdev is recently attended the  Inside 3D Printing Conference & Expo in NYC. This was the world's first business to business conference on 3D printing and brings together several 3D printing luminaries, including Bre Pettis, Hod Lipson, and Terry Wohlers, among others. Topics include: 3D printing in Aerospace & Automotive, 3D design tools, and the Impact of 3D printing on art and fashion. We are proud to be participating (this time as just an attendee) at this conference and are spreading the word about our Lab!

MakerLab Featured in the News (Once Again)

The MakerLab was featured in another news story last week on WCIA3 news. One of our College's faculty members, Jeff Lowenstein, is featured in story. Jeff is a regular visitor to the lab and has used its 3D printers to enhance his research on negotiation. Our lab has been open for just 10 weeks now and we have had over 250 students, faculty, staff visit us for Learning, Making and Sharing. A number of these visitors have made lots of interesting things and learned to make physical objects in a relatively short period of time.
